There are several reasons to start training for a triathlon. For example, you could be a fanatic swimmer, cyclist or runner and be wanting to achieve more than what you already do. A triathlon is of course the perfect challenge at such a point. Another possibility is that after getting a, let’s say running injury, you change to swimming and/or cycling to stay fit. After your recovery from the running injury, the step to a triathlon is made easy!
Are you not a swimmer yourself (or runner or cyclist)? Not a problem at all! You can also take triathlons in a team. These teams consist of a minimum of two and a maximum of three participants. In this way you can divide the different components of a triathlon per participant, so that everyone is able to get the best out of themselves! What is useful to know before you start training for a triathlon: it is extremely addictive!
I started in 2007. At the time, I taught swimming lessons to a lady who was planning a triathlon with a friend. During the time I helped her with the preparation of the triathlon her friend got injured. Because she wanted to do the triathlon, she asked me if I wanted to take the place of her friend. I did this with great pleasure and since then I have done between 10 and 12 triathlons every season, why addicted?
